I live in Scotland.  When I was a child, people used to say that one of the great things about living in a rainy country meant that it kept your skin looking young.  Sadly, I have found grannies only told children this to stop them complaining about having to wear wellies all the time, and that the fact that they themselves looked as though they’d spent too long in the kipper shed should have made me doubt their veracity.

So I knit, and read, and make silver jewellery, and try to embroider, all to keep myself from looking either out the window or in the mirror.  And it’s fun.  I love the liquid brilliance of highly polished silver – for every hour I spend making something, I spend six polishing until -oh no! – I can see my face in it!
